Page inheritance

Feature idea:

It'd be nice to be able to mark templates as "abstract", similiar to how a class in C# can be flagged as abstract in order to keep it from being used directly. I have a template that defines a site header and footer, a child template that adds global nav and search, and other area-specific templates (product pages, support, etc). It would be great to be able to flag templates so that they can't be used directly to create a page, but only as a basis for other templates.

This could be added as a flag in the advanced section, or Title and Properties dialog of the template editor to avoid complicating the backend interface.
