Default project directory of Sitefinity

The default project folder of Sitefinity is located below "Program Files". This folder is intended to be used by none volatile data only. I prefer (and Microsoft agrees with me on this point) all personal data in the C:\User\<user>\Documents folder; it is easier to find and to back-up.
Why is the folder located where it is? Can this folder be changed? Or has this to be made an installation option, so optional networked folders can be selected?

Please refer to this page from the Installation and Administration Guide where the steps for installing Sitefinity in a different than the default location are described. Here you can also see the steps for specifying a different location for a new project.
