Return code 12031 linking a template to a master page file - Sitefinity - Bugs & Issues

I am getting return code 12031 error trying to link a template to a master page file.
The linkage never occurs due to the error below:

Steps to reproduce:

Login to Sitefinity as Administrator
Click Design
Click Page Templates
Click my Template's Actions / Base Template
Click "Use your own master file"
Choose my master page
Click "Use selected"

It refreshes the page, but my template still says "Not based on other template"
Error pop-up in IE: Return code 12031

At the same time, Firebug shows this URL with an error:
Failed to load source for: http://myserver.com/Sitefinity/Services/Pages/PageTemplatesService.svc/changeTemplate/c2525a10-011c-47ce-9063-caa9872bb9c7/

More about this error:
12031 ERROR_INTERNET_CONNECTION_RESET The connection with the server has been reset.

Hello Adam,

This issue looks related to a bug related which we have identified for similar errors and have fixed for the upcoming service pack. In the time being you can take a look at a workaround here.
