Granular permission issue

All Replies

Hi,

I have on a master page about 10 buttons. All the same.
I go to one button and change its Permissions. I set its
"View a widget" setting to " all Backend only" and save it
Publish it.

When I go back to it to check the Permissions, it
shows for "View a widget" -> Everyone again. Does
not remember me changing it and hence it is available
to anonymous users.

Remembers explicit denials though.

Thanks,
Andrei

Hi Andrei,

Thank you for reporting this issue. I tried to reproduce it locally but it didn't show up. Can you please share with me some more information on the specific scenario or maybe send me the files/short video where this problem reproduces.

Boyan,

"...maybe send me the files/short video..."
How??? The attachment facility only allows images.
Unless I can rename the image to a .gif and then you
name it back to a .swf??? Also, it has a max of 2MB.

Anyway, here is a link to where you can get it from:

Many thanks,
Andrei

Hello Andrei,

Thank you for getting back to me.

Thank you for recording this video, and showing me how the problem reproduces. However, I'll have to ask you to give me the code of your user control and master page, because I am still unable to reproduce this with a custom button of mine (please see the attached video).

P.S. Concerning attachments, sorry if this caused any inconvenience, these are the limitations to a forum thread. If you open a support ticket, you should be able to zip any *.swf file and attach it through the attach file utility (size limit is set to 20MB), otherwise we can proceed with uploading the files on an external hosting site, if it's not a problem for you.

Boyan, here you go.

By-the-way, I have achieved the functionality
that I require by explicitly denying permissions.
However, it would have been easier if that worked.

Many thanks,
Andrei

Hi Andrei,

I apologize for the inconveninece caused, and I am glad that you found a workaround for this problem. However i registered your control in several builds of Sitefinity and could not reproduce the problem. is it possible for you to test it on a new project and tell me the version of Sitefinity you're using, if the problem still persists. Thanks in advance!

Boyan,

The project was created with the SP1 applied.

However, I have just created another Project through the Project Manager,
and attempted the process with no faults showing up at all. Yet in the
original project was still showing up, a project which I have created all
over again a couple of days ago.

So:
- I deleted the button in question of the Master Page,
- Published it,
- Went back into it and re-added the button,
- Did all the permissions stuff on it,
- Published the page again,
and it worked fine.

Many thanks again for all your help,
Andrei
