4.1 Catigories and Tags

Hello,

In 4.0 there was the ability to give articles written in "Generic Content" could be given a Category and a Tag(s).  We could then modify Generic Content Lists to filter based on these.  In 4.1 there are Lists, which we can no longer add categories and tags.   Is this a feature that will be coming back?   Will we be able to generate lists based on them?

I would like to know before I have to go in and move all our documentation that was in Generic Content  and create new lists.

Thanks

Hello Jason,

Thank you for contacting Telerik support.

The Generic content module is obsolete in 4.1, that is why you cannot use its functionalities anymore.

What you can do is to transfer your items in Lists module, where taxonomies are not available. You can also use the News module and create your items there. This module has the samoe functionalities as the Generic content module.

Could you please decribe your use case scenario with some more details? Why do you need to use tags for lists? Are you going to tag the whole list or you need taxonomies per a single item?

Looking forward to your reply.

When my company bought the product and started building our new site we wanted to revamp our support section.  You can see what we have started to do here internetvideoarchive.com/.../documentation .  We were using the Generic Content lists for our documentation.  What we would like to do is very much like your KB page.  We want to have articles with categories and tags for specific user types and products.  For example if an editor wants documentation we want to give them one list of Documentation,  Advertising Managers another,  but one article could live in both places and we only want to update it in one place and not in two like you would have to with lists.  We cannot use the News widget because it is being used for something else.   Any Suggestions?

Thanks

Hi,

we had hundred of Generic content, with categories and tag set. And hundred of pages with a generic content list widget filter by category and/or tag.

What are we supose to do?

Tranfer to news module? but the backend form for news is two complex, and is rare to "call" news to content that not news, just generic content.

Other wise, to transfer is to copy and paste or there is a automatic way to transfer the generic content to news.

Tranfer to list modules?, but then a content block can only be in a list, the list have no categories so is the only way to filter, the list widget do not have paging....It's reallty a huge step back

Hi Jason,

My suggestion is to use the Lists module since it main purpose is creating structured content. You can create your own custom fields for the Lists module that are of type taxonomies, so that you can associate your custom fields with categories and tags. Another approach is to create separate Lists for your different documentation type and then show them on the public side. Let's say you have a KB list for holding your knowledge base articles, and FAQ list for holding your frequently asked questions on the site.

We will look into creating custom fields for taxonomies in the List items by default, so that it is much more convenient for you. Excuse us for the inconvenience and please let me know whether you have any further questions.
