Cannot delete a page

Hi All,

I have a page in a sitefinity 4.2 website that I cannot delete.  No matter how I try (through the UI) to delete the page, I get "object reference not set to an instance of an object".

This site is not live - just a proof of concept site, but I'd still like to get to the bottom of how the system got into this state so it can be fixed and/or avoided.

It is multi language, and I've been able to delete the other language instances of this page, but the last one is throwing this error.

Any ideas what to try, where to debug?  There's no error produced in the log file.

Regards,
Robin

Hello Robin,

Enable service tracer log that should provide more descriptive error and send it to us.

Hi Ivan,

I've uploaded the trace file in the dropbox on my account.

Also - it's a template I'm trying to delete, not a page ......

Hello Robin,

I am not sure which "dropbox" you are referring to. Can you attach the log here or open a support request with an attachment.

I meant the Telerik dropbox in the partner extranet.

I'll raise a support ticket rather than post that information on a public forum, though I will update this thread with the outcome in case anyone else has this problem.

Did this get resolved? I am using SF7 and I have the same case where I cannot delete a page template and get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."  No page is currently using this template.

Hi Ed,

I've looked back, and I didn't end up creating a support ticket for this so can only assume the problem fixed itself or we found a workaround.

We did have a lot of problems with multilingual pages back on the 4.x releases, but Sitefinity has moved on a lot since then and I see you mentioned you're on v7.

In the past when we've had odd issues like this, an iisreset has fixed things.  Other than that, have a look in the log files in App_Data\Sitefinity\Logs and see what errors you have in there.

Hope that helps

Robin

Hi,

Could you please provide us more information how and when the exception started? If you can recall any actions prior to getting the error, this will be helpful, as well. Error logs information will be useful a lot, as suggested by Robin. However, I would recommend you open a support ticket with the additional information and logs, so we can proceed faster with the issue.
