Updating product type custom field fails

I have several different product types each with their own custom fields. Once created I cannot amend any of them. Steps to recreate:

Create a custom field for a product type. In my case I have picked a long text type.
Save the product type.
Back on the main product type list page, click that product type to edit it.
Click the new custom field to edit it.
Change any of the values, e.g. the Label.
Click Done. Click Save Changes. The following error is displayed:

Can't save duplicate fields to products. 

On a similar subject, deleting an existing field does not seem to remove it from the database, meaning it is impossible to create another field with the same name (if for example, you made a mistake when creating it originally).

Thank you for bringing this issue to our notice. This issue has already been triaged and been fixed in our upcoming Sitefinity 5.0 release. Sitefinity 5.0 is slated to be released early next week. Please upgrade to the latest when Sitefinity 5.0 is released.
