Cannot create database containing dots or spaces in the name

Creating a database in the Project Startup wizard (after creating a new project with the Project Manager), fails when using a database name that contains dots or spaces.

According to SQLServer specifications these names are allowed and also OpenAccess ORM allows this when enclosed within single quotes. However, enclosing within single quotes gives the same error message.

The reason I want to use dots is because our company's database name standards require this.
