Sitefinity Down - W3WP.exe using 95%-100% of CPU

We've suddenly been having this problem where sitefinity uses insane amounts of memory and crashes. We see that W3WP.exe is gobbling up every bit of memory. The first time this happened we were able to "reset" things by using a backup, unfortunately this has happened again and no matter what backup we try the site will never come back up. W3WP.exe goes right up to 95-100% of CPU and we're stuck all over again. Has anyone had similar issues? Anything you did to solve the problem? Any suggestions? We're seriously stuck and don't know what to do to get things working again.

Thanks!

Dear Richard

I would start by telling us

a) what version you are using
b) if behavoir started to show after upgrades for example
c) if you have custom modules (most of the time source of errors)
d) if the site is multilingual
e) how much traffic you are having on site
f) how many people editing
g) happening imediately or something triggering it

Hi,

The problem have to be isolated to find the cause for the increased CPU timeout please run a test scenario described in this KB article. The most common cause for such CPU spikes caused by the site is a user control on a page that performs CPU intensive calculations or very large queries.
