setting width of layout panels in templates

We have tried to use layout panels in both template builder templates and conventional master pages.

It has started well but we cannot seem to control the initial with of the layout templates so that the page layouts end up a mess.

Please can you tell me how the layout builder determines the initial overall width that it sets when being added to the page?

Hello,

Start the Template Importer and Add layout elements. Click Appearance. Go to Layout width. There are three choices you could make for width. You can see them on this photo. If you want your own width, different from the others you have to open your page master in Visual Studio and manually change to width you prefer. Note that the maximal given width is 1150px.

Hello,

The info for Template Importer refers to an old feature of Sitefinity that is no longer available (it was available until the middle of 2015), it was discontinued. Both Template Importer and Template Builder are not available anymore.
