Editing the Image - Strip template

I have been trying to edit this template for 4 hours now and nothing works.
I tried copying bits from other image gallery templates but pretty much any change makes it stop working.

It seams that every bit of formatting is inside this tag : <sf:SitefinityHyperLink  runat="server" id="singleItemLink"/> and when removed and replaced with a few of my own tags nothing is displayed.

How can i strip off the current format and put in my own when i cannot make any changes?
