Customize built in module views/routes

Hello-

I would like to find out if there is a preferred method for customizing built in routes and methods for built-in modules in Sitefinity.  Specifically I've been working on a way to customize the Taxonomy section to provide more meta data to taxa.

Can you please elaborate on the question, probably include a sample use case? There are a number of approaches for this, however it depends on the desired outcome. Here is a forum thread which discusses a possible extension of the built in routes.
