Help or documentation with Sitefinity's SearchManager

Hi guys

I'm working with Sitefinity 4.2's SearchMananger class but I find the documentation lacking.  I've set up an index on a blog with several entries but I cannot find any entries for anything I search for.

Can you direct me to any tutorials or step-by-step documentation for setting up an index, validating the contents of the index, and searching through the index?

Thank you!

Hello Stu,

Unfortunately we do not cover the topic about the SearchManager in our documentation yet. The only articles about the search module are this one and this one. After you have created your search index, you would have to reindex it to make it work (Actions->Reindex) this will allow all content(included in the index) on the site to be searched. Also, make sure to chose a default page, where the results of the search will be displayed. This is configured when creating the search index. Take a look at the links, and if you have any further questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

All the best,

5 years later it looks like you still don't include documentation. docs.sitefinity.com/search-results

Hi,

Sitefinity no longer uses a SearchManager. Instead (since Sitefinity 7.3) a SearchService is used: http://docs.sitefinity.com/api-changes-in-sitefinity-7-3

There is documentation about customizing the search results: http://docs.sitefinity.com/for-developers-customize-search-results-by-overriding-the-searchresults-class

If you are trying to search programmatically you can refer to the following KB article: http://www.sitefinity.com/developer-network/knowledge-base/details/how-to-search-programmatically-in-sitefinity
