Upgrading custom modules from 4.2 to 4.4

We're upgrading a Sitefinity site from 4.2 to 4.4, which apparently requires an upgrade to 4.3 first. We've got several custom modules running in 4.2 that were compiled using the 4.2 assemblies and will need to be re-compiled to run in 4.4 once the upgrade is complete.

The question we have is whether there will there be any need to compile and install a 4.3 version of our custom code during the very brief time that the site is at 4.3.

Thanks

Hello Stuart,

If you are moving from 4.2 to 4.4, you do not really need to upgrade your modules to 4.3, as it is only a passing point of the upgrade process. You however need to make sure that the site is functioning flawlessly when it is on 4.3 ( backend, content modules, etc. ) before moving to 4.4

@Victor
Am I wrong or does http://www.sitefinity.com/versionnotes.aspx?id=2655 clearly state that

Upgrades

  • Supported Upgrade Paths: from Sitefinity 4.2 SP1 and 4.3. Older versions should be upgraded to one of these first.
I ask this because Stuart wrote that a 4.3 step was needed (he got the idea from somehwere) have some 4.2 SP1 Sites and would assume I can go to 4.4 directly.

@Stuart
Why do you think an 4.3 was needed first?

Hello Markus,

We support upgrades from the past two official versions of Sitefinity, which are 4.2 SP1 and 4.3.

However due to many changes between each major version, it is always a plus when a project has gone through the major supported versions instead of skipping one of them.
