Posting Pages Programatically

Can someone steer me to an end to end example of using the api to create a page; assign it an existing template, add content to that page and publish it on a path in the site?
I find bit of examples in the doc, but I 'm still missing the big picture. For background, the task here is to create and publish/unpublish pages from a sql job. I believe we're on SF4.2
