Use of Amazon S3 for File Storage with Sitefinity 5 SP1

Does anyone know if it's possible to use Amazon S3 for file storage? If so, how would one go about implementing it?  I searched before creating this post and it sounded like it was supposed to be supported out of the box at some point but I can't find any documentation or references to it.  The only references I can find seem to be with an older version of Sitefinity, version 3.6 (see link below).  I figured this approach is not a viable option since so much has changed with Sitefinity since then.

I think the SDK has a dropbox provider sample, so that should be a good jumping off point perhaps?
