5.1 sp 2 - Disabeling Inline Editing a performance boost? Script combining?

I am starting a new Project and when I disable inline editing I get

-  32 Host request less
- 100 k less sent
- 250 k less received

I have script combining set to true - default. 

I s this really the case. If yes. why are so many request needed and not combinded.

Just checking (as I have not yet had a chance to check myself), are you compiling as release or debug? (I assume release) And do you have anything in web.config that would disable script combining?
