Customizing Modules

Ive been creating a few modules and now ive been looking to customize these modules when displayed. I created an event like module called races and I want the ability to have a map show up with either the nearest events or with a search of an address. Would this be done in a template? Also when i click on a specific event it doesnt clear the entire page but it clears some of the other widgets I have on the page. Can I have it dynamically create an all new page? And dynamically create a hyperlink off the website a person enters on the back end when creating the event.
