pretty password protection?

Thanks for your time. Does anyone know a quick and easy non-ugly pass protection method for keeping pedestrian traffic out of a development directory on a production server? It doesn't have to be uber-hardened security because it's really just a limited-access public page. Suggestions are appreciated.
