MVC Widget passing data to the controller

Hello all

 Forgive me for the newbie-ness of the question, however I have not been able to find the answer I am looking for my Google-ing or searching the forums. I am wondering if and how I could take a parameter from the query string for the page and pass it to one of my MVC widgets?
