Custom dropdownlist form field - How do you handle Text and

I would like to create a custom form field using Sitefinity Thunder with the following requirements:

1. When saving, stores the dropdown's selected value (ID) in the Sitefinity database
2. When viewing and exporting form responses from the back office, it display the selected text (not the ID)

Questions:
1. Is there any code samples that include this scenario?
2. Is there any documentation or blog articles that explain how to code this scenario?
3. If there aren't any, can you please post a code sample?
