Role Management

We noticed the following about managing roles:

Roles now seem to work with providers, but we're not sure what the purpose is behind this. Is there any documentation to explain this?

We don't seem to be able to edit the name of the role.

Using the "Assign User to Role" dialog... when we search for a name we seem to get a page flicker where a scroll bar appears then disappears

Looking at permissions for the role the layout seems badly thought out. Wouldn't making use of a drop down list to choose the category of permission your working with (Global, Generic Content, etc.) make more sense? Showing and hiding the rest as needed. Else the more modules you have the longer that already long page will get?

Regards,
Jacques

Hello J.Hoventer,

Thank you for using our services.

Sitefinity 3.x has also worked using the provider model. However there by default you have one provider configured. However you could configure the CMS to use one membership provider for the back-end, and one membership provider for the public part of the website. Now in the new version we provide two role providers configured by default - one for administrative users and one of members/public users.

The CTP version has a number of glitches in the UI in regards to user management. We are going to polish things up for the next release.

Thank you for the feedback on the CTP.

Kind regards,
