Image transparency

If I load an image with transparency, typically a png, to the image gallery it gets manipulated and ends up having some artifacts, or a black background. I can only get gifs to show up correctly on the site, but when viewing them in the image gallery itself they still have a black background.

Hello - My client using version 6.1 and just uploaded a transparent gif. She set the size using the designer, making the image smaller.
It then put a black background on the image where the transparency should be.   This did not happen in recent prior Sitefinity versions.

Of course creating it as a .png in the first place will work however, for existing transparent gif's  is this a bug or expected behavior?

Thank you.
