Hoster Recomandation M6.net

Good day to you all.

Unfortunately SF 4.0 does not run with my shared hosting provider in Switzerland. I am very happy with them but if I don't get 4.0 running it would mean that I would have to switch - The bad thing is that I probably won't find another one this good in Switzerland.

I am looking for alternatives. Since I did not find any in Switzerland I have been looking at alternatives in the US based on the Hosting Partner links on www.sitefintiy.com

I would like m6.net from the look of the site - some hosting partner sites just look terrible overloaded and outdated.

m6.net seems to have a good package but when searching the web a bit I find a lot of older reviews that would make Telerik pull the link from the site.

But this could be old stuff and everything could have changed.

So my question is if any of you is hosting with m6.net and if they can provide feedback.

I think it would be better if you would send your feedback per mail to mb @ marktold.com in order not to have any bad feedback here - if such exists.

I do appreciate your feedback. Please do not post or send other recomandations unless they are in Switzerland. At the moment I am just looking at m6.net

Regards
Markus

Hallo together

It seems that the final version of SF 4.0 will only target .net 4.0. Since m6.net does not support the 4.0 .net framework this hoster is no option anymore.

Hello Markus Berchtold,

Features like Workflow Foundation 4.0. require .NET Framework 4.0. There are many improvements in the API of .NET Framework 4.0 like new types introduced with visual C# 2010

Dear Ivan

Thanks a lot for your clarification.

Is the asp.net mvc framework needed to run sitefinity on the server.

And if yes is it part of the .net 4.0 framework or a seperate framework that needs to be installed.

Regards Markus

PS: I asked my provider to add the wildcard isapi mapping and .svc mapping and will see if this will help and if he can implement it to all Servers.

Posted by Community Admin on 29-Sep-2010 00:00

Hello Markus,

We do not require ASP.NET MVC installed. It is a separate installation ASP.NET MVC and if you want to use MVC with other applications you should have .NET Framework installed.

Best wishes,

Dear Ivan

I am still trying to get SF beta 4 running with my provider.

I now get the error:

Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'Telerik.Sitefinity' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (d:\berchtold\public_html\web.config line 84)

Line 82:     <httpModules>

Line 84:       <add name="Sitefinity" type="Telerik.Sitefinity.Web.SitefinityHttpModuleIIS6, Telerik.Sitefinity"/>
Line 85:       <add name="RadUploadModule" type="Telerik.Web.UI.RadUploadHttpModule, Telerik.Web.UI"/>
Line 86:       <add name="SitefinityAnalyticsModule" type="Telerik.Sitefinity.Analytics.Server.DependencyResolution.Module.DependencyRegistrarHttpModule, Telerik.Sitefinity.Analytics.Server.DependencyResolution"/>

I asked them to enter the wildcard.

Any idea?

Hello Markus Berchtold,

It seems that there is some problem with the dependent assemblies in the bin folder. Can you please perform the following:

1) Open your Sitefinity project in Visual Studio.
2) Expand the References node and see if there are any broken references.
3) Open the _EmptyProject directory which is created by the project manager and copy the contents of the bin folder to the bin folder of your project.
4) Add all binaries from the bin folder as references in your Sitefinity project.
5) Build the web application and FTP it to the host.

Dear Radoslav

Indeed there was a broken ref.

I think I did all the steps you recomendet. But still get the same errror.

Again my provider is trying to get SF running in the shared envirement. Adding Wildcard as recomended and other mapping.

Hello Markus Berchtold,

Please take a look at the attached image on which assemblies the Telerik.Sitefinity.dll depends on. Make sure that those assemblies are referenced or on your hoster's GAC (non-Telerik assemblies).

Thanks, Radoslav

This formula worked for me when getting similar errors!

Posted by Community Admin on 24-Nov-2010 00:00

Dear Radoslav

From x-checking it seems system.web.abstraction is missing on my shard hosting server.

I will try to get in tough with my provider to see if they can fix it and hope it will be working thereafter.

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
        For Each a As System.Reflection.Assembly In AppDomain.CurrentDomain.GetAssemblies()
            Literal1.text += (a.FullName + "<br/>")
        Next

    End Sub

Copied the code here for other (and later reference for me :-))

Hello Radoslav, Ivan

I still get the error on http://www.berchtold.net/sitefinity

Could not load file or assembly 'Telerik.Sitefinity' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (d:\berchtold\public_html\web.config line 113)

But now it seems all needed assemblies are on the server http://www.berchtold.net/test.aspx

Any idea. Still no luck running RC with my provider. Very frustrating.

Hi Markus Berchtold,

We are running out of ideas.

We have also verified that you have all the assemblies We have used this tool which checks assembly dependencies and also shows the dependencies of dependent assemblies. The only one missing is Newtonsoft.Json, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ad4fe6b2a6aeed which is an assembly referenced in Twitterizer2 assembly.

Dear Radsolav

Is Twitterizer2 delivered with Sitefinity, or is it something my provider just has on the server.

I would assume the later.

Twitterizer2 was not listed in your post back a couple of post where you included a grafic what telerik.sitefinity depends on.

And since I have everything on the server the error message does not really give a good clue.

Any idea where to look?

Markus

Posted by Community Admin on 02-Dec-2010 00:00

Hello Markus Berchtold,

Twitterizer2 assembly is distributed with Sitefinity. It was not in the list in my previous response as this one is included in the RC. However you have had the problem before upgrading to RC as i recall. The only thing that I can suggest is to see if adding the Twitterizer2's dependent assemblies will do the trick.

Yes Radoslav I had the problems befor but they could have been because of missing ISAPI wildcard.

If Twitterizer2 is delivered with sitefinity shouldend the missing assembly be as well? Don't see it anywhere.

I only whish my provider had IIS7 already. www.berchtold.net/sitefinity IIS6 error

Hello Markus,

Twitterizer2 indeed comes with Sitefinity, and it should be in the bin directory. It is used for getting Twitter into the publication system.
Unfortunately I am not sure why the assemblies are missing. Perhaps you can check this with the hosting support personnel? You can re-upload the whole solution if you doubt that there are missing assemblies.

Dear Georgi

Could it be that the problem is that my server is an SQL 2005 server. I read here http://www.sitefinity.com/Libraries/sitefinity-v4-PDFs/Sitefinity_Product_Datasheet.sflb.ashx that it supports 2008 and SQL express?

I don't think this is the case since I can connect from my local machine to the same database.

So the question remains

Hi Markus,

I am out of ideas. If I continue to ask questions, I am afraid it will be only in a guessing manner.
Let's try something different - can we check the directories in which the assembly probing is done? This means, where Asp.Net looks for the assemblies. The other thing that we can check is to upload another application there, and check if it will work.

I apologize that I am not much helpful at this time.

Kind regards,
Georgi

Dear Georgi

I finally downloaded the tool you recomended on you r post form 12/2/2010 9:51 to check for the depenencies myself

a) the latest release seem to have different dependencies then you gave me in your screenshot from  11/1/2010 12:50

The following were not on your list. Have they been added lately (they are not on my server)
- PresentationFramwork
- System.Activities.Presentation
- System.Xaml

In addition the tool  reports dependencies to

mscorlib, Version=4 as well as version=2
System.XML, Version=4 as well as version=2
system.web, Version=4 as well as version=2

Can this be correct?

Hope to get your feedback soon to finaly get SF 4.0 running with my hoster!

Hello Markus,

The reference you see were added with the RC when we introduced the workflow.

1. Your host should support full trust
2. You should be able to add system references from the GAC.

Hello Markus,

Your project has to reference assemblies with runtime version v4. You cannot reference assemblies with a lowered version than .NET 4.0. Having other version of an assemble in the GAC should not be a problem when you do not refer a wrong version.

UNQUOTE

I took the tool Radoslave described and it reported that telerik.sitefintiy would also depend on the 2.0 version. Thats what I was suprised off.

Maybe Radoslav can run the tool again with the latest telerik.sitefinity.dll and see for himself (unless the tool is wrong)

Is SF 4.0 depending on 4.0 and 2.0 versions?

Posted by Community Admin on 27-Dec-2010 00:00

Hello,

You are right. We've checked it too and found that the reference is coming from the Ajax toolkit. We will most probably remove this assembly in the future versions - it has been discontinued anyway.

Sitefinity can run in full trust at the moment, because of limitations in WWF4.0. We are currently looking for solutions there.
