Panel Bar for navigation instead of built in Navigation cont

How would I go about using the Panel Bar instead of the built in Navigation control?

I would also like to have a unique icon next to each menu item.

You can bind the RadPanelBar to SiteMapDataSource and then access the panel bar items inside ItemDataBound or DataBound events where you can set different images.
