Load balancing

Hello,

Can someone please clarify what it means that load balancing will only be supported in the Pro edition?  We're going live with a system in January using the Standard Edition, and we are using a cluster of 2 small virtual servers, each of which will have a copy of the web app, and we'll distribute the load using NLB.  It's not a large site, and we're not expecting a huge amount of traffic... mostly just looking for redundancy and fail over.  Is this type of setup not supported with the Standard Edition?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

You should use Professional or Enterprise editions which allow using Load Balancing configuration.

How does it NOT support load balancing?

Is there anything specific about the architecture of the product that would specifically disable load balancing for the standard license?

What would stop me from deploying the standard edition of the site to two identical environments, and load balance them?

Hi Joe,

There is special implementation of cache dependencies that can invalidate cached objects across Sitefinity instances, which is available only in those two editions. Further, in the future we will add support for AppFabric caching (former Velocity) along with other AppFabric integrations for the two editions.

Kind regards,

Hi, any news about the Windows AppFabric Caching provider for Sitefinity? This is very important for us in Web Garden configuration as a way to reduce memory consumption in our web servers.
Thanks in advance,
Andrés.

Hello Andres,

Unfortunately we do not yet have support for AppFabric. We have also not planned this for the first 2012 release.

Hi there,

Can Sitefinity be configured yet to work with AppFabric caching yet?
We're concerned that whenever our application pool recycles, the standard asp.net output cache will be flushed and our Sitefinity sites won't be able to handle the load.

Hi Tim,

Currently we have not tested official compatibility with AppFabric, however there have been customer experiences where AppFabric has conflicted wiht the proper operation of the WCF RESTful services that operate the Sitefintiy backend. In addition, since we use OpenAccess ORM for our data layer implementation, its data caching can currently be facilitated with the built-in implementation only.

We would like to advise you to schedule the AppPool recycling on intervals where the site is not under heavy load, or utilize Load balancing for handling the high traffic scenraio by multiple servers.

Hi Boyan,

Is enabling Webgarden mode in IIS supported?
Anything special we need to know?
(single server configuration with multiple cpu sockets & many cores)

Thanks

Tim

Hello.

We do not currently support webfarm. Our high availability environment support with using either a Web Farm or Network Load Balancing.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Unless your support for webfarm has changed in the past 2 months we have seen this page in your documentation about web farm for a rather long time

Hello Rick,

Yes I mistyped the first one. I meant web garden. You see in the second sentence were I go on to say we only support web farm and NLB.

Sorry for the confusion.
