How to insert image from file system?

Hi there,

I'm wondering how a user is supposed to insert an image using the RadEditor in the Generic Content Editor if the image already exists in the file system of the website (i.e. ~/images/ folder). In SF3.x you could choose from an image library for from file system but I can't find the option to browse file system in SF4. Has this functionality been removed, forcing all images to be in an image gallery or is it just not implemented yet?

Hi Phill,

File system selector has not been implemented yet. Currently you can select only from Images module. We have plans to extend the ContentBlock designer in Q1 and logged a task for this.

It's been a year and this seems to still not be implemented.  Is that true?  How can we insert an image into a content block from an image file we already have in our  ~/images/ folder?  Seems like pretty standard functionality but I can't seem to select an image off the disk to put into a page. Is this planned?

Hello Ben Alexandra,

What we have done to address this request is provide filesystem storage providers for Libraries, which allows you to have your images, videos, etc stored on the filesystem, but at the same time appear in Sitefinity Libraries. You can learn more about the functionality on this article form our Documentation. If the above does not suit your specific use case scenario, please check this forum thread which contains a long discussion of similar functionality requirement. I've provided a sample extension of the RadEditor with a custom dialog allowing you to browse the file system and insert links to documents and specify custom title for the link. You might take a look at it and try the sample source code I've provided and modify it slightly, so the inserted HTML is not <a href> but <img> tag also you can find more information on adding custom dialogs to RadEditor on this article from our Rad Controls documentation.

Best wishes,
