Muliple sitefinity versions with one database

We have a number of sitefinity installations which each use their own database, however we also have a central database that we use for documents and content that is shared between all sites.  Each application has 2 providers for retrieving this content, one for it's own database and one for the shared database.

We are planning our upgrade to sitefinity 4.0 and are wondering if there is any way to do this without having to upgrade all the applications at once because of the shared provider

for example having a 4.0 installation with one of its providers pulling data from a 3.7 database?

Hello Kris,

It is not possible to get data from Sitefinity 3.x database using Sitefinity 4.0 edition. This could be done only in the context of a web service. You cannot connect Sitefinity 4.0 website to Sitefinity 3.x directly.

Generally you should better use the migration tool to migrate your 3.x projects.

All the best,
