Can widget designer pages be .Net user controls?

While the widget itself can be a .net user control, can we likewise use a (modified) user control for the widget designer as well?

unfortunately, at the moment this is not possible. We will work on implementing this as well as providing the pure server-side designers. All this being said, performance of the client side designers will always be better.

Anyhow, we do understand your request and we will provide implementation for such scenarios. In the mean time, you can read a post I wrote about designers and examine the sample code - it is actually much simpler that it used to be in Sitefinity 3.x, even though it does require some client side coding.
