How to put a Video in a Blog Post or News Item

[updated]
Rather than make a new page for every video or document they wish to distribute, our users want to use the Blog to announce new ones (they are doing a lot of them).  They also want the option in News items.

They need to have it play the video files on both MAC and PCs, and support Flash Video.

After using the Blog Editor Media Manager and adding the wmv videos the published page prompts MAC users to purchase a third party software.
We uploaded flash flv video files, but when we click the Flash Manager button, nothing is available and all the buttons are inactive.
With the File Manager, the flv's will add as links but not as a playable video on the page.

I also tried the embed HTML tags you get from the Video library in the site editor for the wmv files, but nothing shows up when the blog post is published.  And copying and editing the tags would be too much to ask for our typical content contributor.

much appreciated!

Hi Jorge,

Videos uploaded in the Videos module require that the client has Silverlight installed. This is the same as running flash on a website - you need the browser plugin to view Silverlight content.

As for flash video - the Flash Manager of the rich text editor can only embed flash content which does not require third party players. It can use only flash content that can be rendered directly by the browser - SWF for example. FLV files require third party player component. If you which to use FLV files you can follow the example here and create a custom field control which will output a FLV file from the Documents & Files module.
