Are forum posts being deleted?

All Replies

Hi,

Peter and I was discussing Sitefintiy 4 missing functionality and now the forum post is no where to be found. Clicking the link in our email notification for the post returns a server error.

The post is in forum search but returns an error... however if you browse General Discussions it is no where to be found.

Are forum posts deleted?

Here is the Google Cache:

Thanks

Hi @Seth
I've also wondered about Sitefinity delete items as they do not like!

I mean every word I wrote. Therefore I post my reply to your post again:

@Seth
We totally agree!
Some of the basic functions of an SMS sytem does not exist. For the same reason we do not want to upgrade the old 3.7 clients. We dare not to try an update! We have already spent considerable amounts of time in this Sitefinity Beta x project. Do not understand Sitefinitys planning. Still a slow and buggy CMS. Ok now with shopping cart, as none have been particularly interested in at this time. Who will try the shopping cart, running on top of a shaky CMS ...?
But the marketing department running well-oiled...
It's just not good enough. We expect something more of a CMS system!

Hello guys,

The forums were not deleted. We made them private, which escalates the problem. In other words, from a forum thread in which we cannot commit support by Telerik staff, we made it Supported thread.

Hi Georgi

Do not understand what you mean! Please explain what you mean! Is the criticism Sitefinity can not accept or ...?

Hello Peter,

We made the thread private to the first person raising the question, so that we can support him and give him alternatives through the support channel.  We do not delete threads just like that, and after this complaint I made the thread public again. You can access it here - http://www.sitefinity.com/devnet/forums/sitefinity-4-x/general-discussions/is-the-breadcrumb-in-4-2.aspx

Isn't the purpose of a Forum so that issues can be openly discussed and solutions can benefit everyone using the product? Making a forum "private" so they can be "escalated" actually does the opposite, it means that nobody else can contribute to a solution, possibly slowing the process down. It also means that questions/issues will get posted over and over as solutions are no longer public, increasing the work load on Sitefinity support/devs.

Please inform your support staff to stop this behavior as it benefits nobody and as you've now noticed it makes people think you're trying to hide things.

Regards,
Phill

Erm... Are you guys still doing it?

First result of this search is "Classification without multiple selection", and I can't access it.

Hello?

The topic that vanished basically went like this:

Me - "Feature x doesn't work"
Admin - "Known bug, will be fixed in 4.2"
Me - "4.2 is out, it's still not fixed"
Admin - "Please open a ticket with your configuration and database files"
Me - "Can you confirm the bug was actually fixed in 4.2? It's not mentioned in the change log"
Other guy - "Getting the same error with 4.2 when doing something very similar"
*topic disappears*

I'd love to hear back from the Sitefinity staff, because like others, I don't appreciate being treated this way.

Hi,

Are you sure to find a bug, now Sitefinity is Rock Solid (#1 - Sitefinity 4.2 is rock-solid).

Nicolas

Hello,
What about this one. It is even a bigger joke!
# 2 - Sitefinity 4.2 is fast ... a lot of fasting

Hello,

What is the purpose of this thread now?
We have answered that forums posts are never deleted. We have provided answers to all the private threads. We will make sure to provide an answer to the ones without a reply as well, just like we always do. Sometimes forums posts are being made private because we may request sensitive information as support access to your live servers. I am not sure that such information should stay public.

@Thomas - We are converting your thread from support one, to a forum thread. You may find it here - http://www.sitefinity.com/devnet/forums/sitefinity-4-x/bugs-issues/classification-without-multiple-selection.aspx, and I'll make sure that you receive a reply. Please note that may ask you to open a support ticket, in case we need to access your project.

@Nicolas - we still claim that 4.2 is much better in every aspect. You will always find bugs in any software product. The difference is how you address them, if the bugs have any workarounds so that you can continue to work on your project and so on.

@Peter - have you compared 4.1 and 4.2 in speed? What do the results show? I really hope that you have results for your own project that you can share. If the results in 4.2 are worse, we are ready to propose you cooperation - we will take your project locally, and will optimize its speed.

Guys, let's be constructive, and focused. You are always welcomed to start new discussion in the General discussions forum or anywhere else, according to the Forum purpose.

Best wishes,
Georgi

Hi Gorgie

When I am speaking not only for myself. It's our customers who did not experience a system has been considerably faster. Customers perceive it more as something theoretical talk.

I will gladly send you a project to Sitefinity support.
Because I would really like to know what we're doing wrong. Our customers will love me for it and a faster CMS.
I thought that it is embarrassing that customers would rather return to their old CMS - Because of the speed!
Best regards
Peter

I understand how Nicolas and Peter feel, but yes, I'll try to focus on being constructive.

"What is the purpose of this thread now?"

The reason I brought this up is simple: confusion. Why are we not notified when something like this happens? How was I supposed to know where my topic was moved? I did not receive a mail, PM, or whatever, telling me what's going on.

The rest of this message is a rant about that one bug I reported. It's a little off topic, but not that much, as it still concerns our satisfaction with your product and support.
Disclaimer: do not take the rest of this message personally.

IMO, my topic wasn't security related in any way or anything, I do not understand the need to move it (again, without notification). An admin indeed asked me for my config and DB files, which I do not think are needed, as the problem is easily reproducible on any configuration (done on several different installs here, and done by someone else who replied to the topic).

It's not the first time I feel like admins suggest things they did not actually try (like here), or that the conversation goes around in circles, in order to save time. Here, I feel this way partly because the admin who asked me for these files failed to confirm whether the bug had actually been fixed in 4.2. To me, it just sounds like a bug that wasn't really fixed, or a fix that wasn't back ported to the 4.2 branch.

It's painful enough to notice a bug that was supposed to be fixed is still there (and I did contact my client telling him it would be fixed, because I thought it would!). By making me waste more time with forum posts, having to play some kind of cat-and-mouse game, I feel like you're adding insult to injury.

Here, I doubt the admin who replied to me actually tried to reproduce the bug with the concerned Sitefinity versions (or maybe he did so and could see it doesn't work indeed?). I'm basing this on the lack of details in admin messages, and the fact they do not reply to certain questions. This is just my guess, and it may be wrong, but every little hint here and there I see make me feel this way. I don't mean to troll or be unfair, these are just my honest feelings. To be fair, sometimes admins provide satisfactory and thorough replies. But other times they don't seem so professional.

Hi Georgi,

it's been almost nine months I work on Sitefinity 4. I try to stay constructive and patient during this time, but I finally became irritated.

Sitefinity 4.2 are surely better than previous even it isn't perfect, what I criticism it's that there were many architectural  errors and API changes at every versions. Result, specific developments have a life expectancy between 2 and 3 months. I waste my time and my customer also...

Nicolas

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

@Bo - In this case, we can take a look at the project. Please open a support ticket, and send us your project and database so that we can check what is going on.You may ask the clients what their expectations are, and which areas are the slowest ones, what is the acceptable delay. My point was that 4.2 is faster than 4.1. Now there could be a lot of reasons for a system to be slow - and this is what we will try to determine with your project.

@Thomas - The reason I brought this up is simple: confusion. Why are we not notified when something like this happens? How was I supposed to know where my topic was moved? I did not receive a mail, PM, or whatever, telling me what's going on.
- I see your reason and this is definitely our bad that we did not inform you. On behalf of the support team, I apologize for this and we'll make sure to take a note here. We will also make sure to go over your threads and check why there are unsatisfying replies in terms of quality. I escalated the thread about the classifications, so you can expect a reply there soon.

@Nicolas - We have started to post the breaking API changes with our releases. We are also trying to make the old api methods obsolete whenever this is possible. There are of course risks with it, and making an API obsolete might not be a solution. This is for example the case with the Sitemap, but the improvements we did there are tremendous. In any case, if you see such breaking change, please open a support ticket as soon as possible so that we can provide you with a working solution on the same day. As for the architectural mistakes, would you care to elaborate on them? I'd suggest you to open a Product Feedback thread, so that we can escalate it to a higher level.

Thanks for your understanding! In the end of the day, the support staff is here to help.
