Add User Control to List Template List?

I'm using the blog widget on a page and want to use a custom template.

To make it more maintainable, I'd prefer to user a user control in my project solution rather than use the template editor in Sitefinity.

Is there a way to add a user control the the List template list?

Basically, I'm trying to add my user control to the list as indicated in the screen shot.  Is that possible?  I do not want to simply override the default template with something like overriding the virtual path to the widget template as I've got multiple templates I need to use.

Unfortunately there is no direct way. You could create a new template, register your user control on the top of the template and then insert the tags that use this control in the body of the template.
