Google Search question
If you search for our website 'APICS' in google search, it returns "Untitled" as the title with a description that doesn't match the 'Home' page. I added a title in the page itself and Master Page, but this seems to not update Google Search.
Does anyone know if there is a 'root' file in Sitefinity below 'Home' that could be updated with a title/description?
Any thoughts/advice would be welcome. We transitioned to Sitefinity 4.1x in late January and previously this was not an issue.
Thanks, Lou
Have you checked your page's Title & Properties? I would look there first.
In the Sitefinity 'Pages' menu:
- Click the 'Actions' drop down menu that corresponds with your home page.
- Select "Title & Properties"
- Review the "Title for search engines", update as needed.
- Expand the "Description, Keywords" section.
- Review the "Description", update as needed.
- Ignore the "Keywords" - not used by most search engines anymore.
- Save changes.
Thank you Dan, this is very helpful. We have done this and Google appears to still not display it. We were wondering if maybe this could take several days/weeks to appear.
Also, we noticed there is a "title" field in the Master template which we edited but isn't displaying either. We were wondering if there was any pages/files in the root (like a master template) that could be controlling the default/home page. Thanks, Lou
Hey Lou -
The change you made will take some time (a couple of weeks most likely) to propagate through all the search engines out there. Unfortunately, they index on their own interval so the change you made will take a bit of time to reflect. The master page title is not used as it is based solely on the page title that you just updated.
