Sitefinity Admin access for external user

We have an user failing to access the Sitefinity admin interface (accessing the /sitefinity directory) from outside our network. Here's the scenario:
1. Logs into Citrix
2. Opens web browser (Internet Explorer)
3. Navigates to the /sitefinity directory of Sitefinity-based site available in our internal network
4. User gets a HTTP 403.6 error

I had assumed this error was the result of something on our server (and not Sitefinity). However, we've found that:
1. The external user can successfully access the site itself (that is, the site on the internally hosted server).
2. This user can access other web sites on the same server.
3. There is nothing in the IIS settings that prevents external IP addresses from accessing the directory. (In fact, there are no IP restrictions to any folder.)
4. The user gets the same error for the same website project on two different servers. The first is Windows 2003/IIS 6 and the other is Windows 2008/IIS 7.

So, I'm thinking something in the sitefinity security settings is checking the domain. Or maybe something with the browser in Citrix.

We are using Sitefinity 4.2. We are using IIS 6 and IIS 7. Any ideas?

Thanks,
David

Hello David,

The HTTP Error 403.6 indicates an IP address being blocked:

HTTP Error 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address of the client has been rejected.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

In order to access Sitefinity backend and SitefinityWCF RESTFul services to operate correctly the /Sitefinity folder should be freely accessible. Can you please enable service trace logging for your application following this KB article, and send us back the generated logs after reproducing the issue several times, so we can have some updated information on the problem.

I'm unable to attach the file. Is there a preferred method for sending you the log file? (support ticket?)

Thanks,
David
