Filtering image gallery with taxonomies in list view

Hi, Im currently trying to filter the image gallery by the tag/category associated with the image. I already have a category widget in the page that has a list of all the tags but I want to also filter the gallery through the tags of each particular image.

I have tried to
#1 modify HierarchicalTaxonField.ascx to add links around the labels of each tag that is associated with the image. But I could not find the properties / data I needed to construct the link (/in-classification/classification/tag  

#2 Add the category widget(TaxonomyControl.ascx) into the list view with content type to images but I can not get it to display only the tags used with the associated image

Please help!
