Well just think about all the places you can and/or have to set SMTP Settings.

E-Mail Campains
Administration - Basic - E-Mail Campaigns

General
Administration - Advanced - System - SMTP Settings

Password Stuff
Administratino - Advanced - Security - Membership-Provider- Default - Parameters - RevoveryMailAddress

Notifications
Administration- Advanced- Notifications - Profiles

Forms
Administration- Advanced - Forms - Notifications - Sender Profile (see above)

Forums
Administration - Advanced - Forums - Notifications - Sender Profile

And I assume there must be more to be found.  When I first set up a project I need to setup SMTP servers too. I even put in a suggestion once to make it part of the setup.

Furthermore you can test the functionality in E-Mail Campains but not the others which are at least as crutial - Set a password recovery and wrong SMTP credential can send someone to the forums asking how to reset admin password :-)

I don't know it its just me or could this stuff use some reworking.

I ran into this problem yesterday while trying to get mail working in a variety of scenarios on a new site. I thought I was going crazy, the organization is very unlike Telerik. Please tidy it up!

Ever wondered how to do a decent setup of the comments? Comments can be enabled/disabled in too many places. Can't see the wood for trees...
