Extended Registration Page

Hello and Happy New Year to all.  My developer just informed me that the registration page can't have more that x number of fields.  We need to have a much longer form to capture data from our customers related to our industry.  He is suggesting we have a short registration page to provide a username and password and then direct them to fill out another form to get all the date from them.  This would not be an ideal workaround.  Is there a way to capture all the information from one registration page so the customer won't have to go to another page to enter more detail?  Thanks in advance for your help!

If you have any further problems please let me know but this how you would add additional fields to the existing user registration widget.
