Profile widget and Profile Types

Why can't the profile widget (in V5.2) connect (or be associated) with a profile type?? I've created a new profile type (to be able to have custom fields associated with users). I'd like to simply use the profile widget for the users to be able to manage their profiles (and these fields). I've read the following article which implies that you can associate the profile widget to a particular profile -- but it doesn't seem possible.
