Upgrading 3.7 SP4 to 5.4, an utter disaster!

I am attempting, as it now appears in vein, to upgrade my old 3.7 SP4 site to 5.4. I am attempting both the Automatic and Manual options, which have now both failed.

Here's how it played out...

Automatic Upgrade.

I have documneted the what I've done with the following video:

Automatic Method FAIL

As you can see, it fails.

Manual Upgrade.

The following video shows how this too fails to work.

Manual Method FAIL

You can see in this image I have the MigrationService.svc in place,

Also the Migration DLL's in place,

Finally, the service hosting environment tag in place.

Also, when I try to locate the MigrationService.svc file, to be sure that it can be contacted, I get this:

WTF??!! The file is there! I can open any other file, but when I try to open MigrationService.svc, I get a 404 error. This is maddening!

Hey Lurch,

Just checking if you use perhaps a Royaltee free version of Sitefinity 3.7 SP4 (that is the Developer Edition of Sitefinity 3.7).

I had problems with this also, and it was not possible to do this, so what I did was:

- Created a new Sitefinity 3.7 SP4 STANDARD website
- Changed the connection strings of the providers to point to my website I wanted to migrate
- In 5.4 I pointed to this STANDARD edition website where I installed the Migration Service.

Maybe that helps?
Sorry to here. It's frustrating, I know!

Kind regards,
Daniel

Lurch,

Before we dive in (just to make sure all the standard bases are covered) have you reviewed the documentation on Migrating your Sitefinity 3.7 project?

This may not be necessary but when I do upgrades, I always have both projects running locally on IIS. Based on the non-routable IP you're entering, I'm going to assume the 3.7 site is running on your network but moving it to local host might make things a bit easier.

To further add to the confusion...

I'm fairly sure version 3.7.2096 isn't 3.7 SP4 in which case the "Installation package for the build version of the specified SF3.7 project is missing" would actually make sense.

Fair enough, I thought I had the SP4 patch installed, but it appears I screwed up somewhere.

So, how do I apply the SP4 patch? Where is the best place to download it?

Thanks.

@Jochem: Yup. That is also true. SP4 is version '3.7.2136.(240)'
@Lurch: You don't have an account to download it? I only have the royaltee free edition, so that won't help you ;) Maybe ask support?

Kind regards,
Daniel

Daniel's right, just checked it as well it's 3.7.2136.

Otherwise it's indeed a matter of opening a support ticket.

Probably a dumb question, but how did you find out what version I was using?

Posted by Community Admin on 15-Mar-2013 00:00

@Lurch,

Not a dumb question at all. At around 0:38 sec into the first video, you show a windows explorer screen. So I did a Google search (PEC + scholarship) because I had a hunch it wasn't the right version. 1st hit proved to be a Sitefinity 3.7 site, so that couldn't miss...

@Jochem: ha, same approach here ;)

@Daniel ;)
@Lurch forgive us, we're Dutch we can't help it :)

Well I ran the update file, as you can see here:

But still getting the same failures. :(

@Lurch,

Feel free to shoot me an email so we can meet up on Skype/GoTo and see if we can tackle this together... jbokkers [at] live.nl
