Side by Side 3.7 and 6.1?

Hi -

Sorry if this has been addressed before but i couldn't find a definitive answer. Our client has a need to install version 6 alongside version 3.7. Is this possible?

The reason is this: they want a mobile site up for Christmas and there is not enough time to convert the complete site to a responsive design (it is a complex MS Commerce Server site). We want to stand up an "mDot" mobile site for Christmas in version 6 and then after the beginning of the year work on building out the fully responsive site with all the pages, etc.

Is there a better option that anyone can suggest? Would running 3.7 and 6 side by side work? They will purchase version 6 professional so we won't have multisite capability.

Thanks,

David Ranck

Hi David,

You will be able to run both a 3.x website and a 6.0 on one server (if this is your concern). The difference will be in the IIS configurations, because for example 3.7 versions of Sitefinity that are using .Net 3.5 can be ran only on application pool with .Net 2.0, and the application pool or 6.0 website should be .net 4.0 Integrated. However, this should not be a problem for you. Do you have any other concerns?
