Blog and News feed threading

Is it possible to thread posts from the "Blogs" and "News" into one feed/stream?

 We are using SF 5.4. It seems not possible, and you must drag over seperate widgets for each.

 Thoughts?

We were thinking perhaps we should shutter the blog, and convert it to a News item instead because they seem about identical. This way the news articles and blog articles would 'thread together' in a news stream.

 I've attached a screen-shot of what I'm talking about--notice, there is no way in the blogs widget to select 'news' items.

Out of the box you cannot achieve this, but you could e.g. create a custom control and get all or specific News&Blogs items and bind them in a repeater to list them together. This is maybe the easiest way to achieve this.

Hi Vassil, Two questions.

1) Do you have information on creating a custom control. (Specific items wouldn't work because it would be ongoing updated)

 2) Alternately, do you see any reason why using a Blog is advantageous? It appears the News and Blog module are identical besides the "Go comment!" and "Comment" at the bottom. Should we just convert the blog into a news item?

There are may resources how you can create custom controls:

Custom control is an external library which can be referenced by multiple projects, by that you avoid copying code (which is needed when using user controls).

The main difference between blogs module and news module is that you can have multiple blogs each containing posts. News items do not have parent.
