Bitly integration expectations

I've completed the steps for Twitter and Bitly integration on a client website.  I followed the documentation at http://docs.sitefinity.com/administration-configure-twitter-in-sitefinity But the social sharing icons are not acting as expected.  The client and I expected the URLs to be shortened when a user clicks to share via Twitter.  This should happen on the social Page Sharing widget and when we turn social sharing on in the client's list of press releases.  What should I expect Bitly integration to provide?

I think all of us have the same expectation.. one of the main problems on the share to social (focusing on twitter) is to have the bitly integration there... :-(
