Workflows and publish dates

Has anyone ever built a custom workflow that will allow the content editor to submit a page/post to be published and set a future publish date at the same time?  The current workflows do not seem to allow for that and the person approving the item at the end of the workflow has to set the publishing date which is far from ideal.
