I will have to create another extent to our database. Someone told me that I can create an extent of 10 gigs and forget about it. As far as I remember, the size limit is 2 gigs.
Am I right ?

It depends on your product and version. In Enterprise versions, you can enable large files on the DB and have extents larger than 2GB. At one of my previous sites, we had 50GB extents (V9.1Dx).
proutil -C EnableLargeFiles
Can't be undone, but I have never seen/heard of any reason not to have it.
