Download File Size:

the 11.2.1 windows 32 bit "service pack"

Wow. Must have been a lot of bugs fixed to make it that big.

Really ? Does it need to be that big ?

It is new executables, not patches...

well, seeing as the bin directory in it's entirety is 169 MB ... and zipped it's 75MB, that's still only 7% of the download , even if they've modified every single file in the bin directory.

cmon.

Documentation?

Haven't looked at it yet. But the size suggests an updated version of the UltraControls.

Shouldn't that be a separate download?

Posted by Admin on 12-May-2013 16:38

It has never been. Why should it?

Never wondered why since 10.2A the Win32 download is more over twice as big as anything else?

It's like the Oracle Dataserver. It's part of the download - even it you use the better RDBMS.

I think Julian has pointed out the why.  Why use all that bandwidth for stuff one doesn't use?

Unzipped zip of SP: 1.170 MB

Infragistics Control: 369 MB

Eclipse: 356 MB

Both are Win32 only components.

So for how many different downloads would you go?

It's 2013. When you have the choice between irrelevant bandwidth and simplicity. What would you choose?

Posted by Thomas Mercer-Hursh on 14-May-2013 09:09

Apparently, I would make a different choice than you would.

Leave out Eclipse for vi developers on Windows? Come on! Seriously. Even in your part of the world, a 1 GB download cannot hurt.
