Licence Exception when instantiating an Appserver

Hello,

This is my first post in the community - I attended PUG Challenge last year and it was fun! This is my second year using Openedge technology so please be patient with me!

I am reading the "OpenEdge® Getting Started: Installation and Configuration" document; our server is already installed and configured, but I am trying to start developing in Kendo. For this, I understand I need to have an instance of the Unified Broker, or AppServer. Correct?

I configured this instance through Openedge Explorer. But when I try to start it I get this error:

[18/10/03@16:18:43.128-0700] P-012070 T-Main 2 UB Basic Licence Exception: com.progress.common.licensemgr.LicenseMgr$NotLicensed: Not licensed to run this product.

[18/10/03@16:18:43.128-0700] P-012070 T-Main 1 UB ----------- ERROR : Not licensed to run this product. (8452)

Now, I think we have the product already licensed... here's the list of products we have licensed:

Do you have 2 progress installations on the same machine?  I have seen similar things when the DLC environment pointed to one OpenEdge version and we tried to start another version.

This looks to be the list straight out of ESD (and is not a list of the products installed and licensed on the specific machine). Please check the license info on the machine where OpenEdge is installed ('License info' on Windows / showcfg on Linux) and check that list for one of the following items:

  • OE Application Svr Basic
  • OE Application Svr Ent

These are the items that correspond to the 'unified broker/AppServer' which is the classic AppServer.

If you're considering to do something with Kendo, I'd advice to go with the new application server (PASOE) and those items (from a license perspective), should be shown like this (if entered while installing):

  • Progress Dev AS for OE
  • Progress ProdAS for OE

If you are licensed, but have not entered the control keys for these products during installation, you can probably just update the license by running the 'License update' program on Windows (under 'Progress') or use the 'proudpt' program on Linux (in your %DLC% folder).

Hello! Thanks for your replies. When I run showcfg (Linux server). So , as  Ruben said, I do have ProdAS for OE. Also, you're right Ruben, I want to start working with Kendo; so for this, do I just need a PASOE instance? I have one deployed for .NET. Can I use this same instance for Kendo?
