A very common scenario: customer has a 100 concurrent user Enterprise DB license running on Linux which is in turn running inside VMWare ESX.
What license is required to vmotion the Linux server from one physical node to another? Please don't tell me what you think *should* be the answer, or what is *fair*. That is a never-ending discussion that requires lubrication.
Traditional DR licenses are meant to be installed on a secondary DR server and have distinct serial numbers. OE Replication allows for the existence of a DR environment with the same serial numbers, so this sounds like a better fit.
Reading the EULA and the policy guide doesn't clarify things very much.
Who would I ask at Progress? I would guess my sales rep, but I'm not sure that they're in a position to give me an official answer. It seems to me there should be a clear policy for this. VMWare and vmotion are not new technologies.
