When you upgrade a license from 10.2B to 11.3, the result is that you are licensed to use 11.3 and no longer licensed to use 10.2B.

Hi Frank Meulblok, my concern will be on the licensing which I want to clarify about.

Let say initially I have OE10.2B (32-bit) license and have upgraded to OE11.3 (64-bit), can I install both licenses or only can use the latest OE11.3 (64-bit) license?

Thank you.

License-wise, what's running on which bit-level shouldn't matter (apart from the fact that you need to get the license for the desired bit-level/platform of course).

But if these are Windows clients (fairly safe assumption for "client PC"), you'll run into technical issues before you get to worry about that.

You'll be stuck with the bit-level of the first products you install. The installer for the other one will detect that as a pre-existing installation and then refuse to install anything else because of bit-level mismatch.

The side-by-side support was introduced in 11.5.

Hi [mention:2090e04e4bf94975ad7a1cecc79051d2:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05], thanks for your reply. Let say in general I have a OE (32-bit) license, but have it upgraded to 64-bit. Can I install both the 32-bit and 64-bit OE?

"Can I install both the 32-bit and 64-bit OE?"

Not on the same Windows machine, unless you move to OE 11.5+

Hi [mention:32a62ba0f37747fdb44c2796fce8670e:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05], thanks for your reply.

In this case, what are the options if I want to upgrade my OE to a 64-bit and at the same time supporting existing client application that is still on 32-bit?

In KB #000029526 mentioned the products that include the 32-bit client are:

  • OpenEdge Workgroup RDBMS
  • OpenEdge Enterprise RDBMS
  • OpenEdge DataServer for ORACLE
  • OpenEdge DataServer for ODBC
  • OpenEdge DataServer for Microsoft SQL Server

If so, let say I have a OE Enterprise RDBMS (64-bit) (Concurrent User Model), how do I deploy the 32-bit client to the client PCs?

Please advise.

Thank you so much!

It seems that I need to purchase additional Client Networking (32-bit) licenses for the client PCs?
