Off Topic - HP laser printer not taking control code in Suse

Posted by karlynind on 06-Jul-2014 09:26

Hello, We had, in old V6 on SCO unix, HP laser printer via serial connection didn't have this problem. We just move to V11.3 on Suse Linux Enterprice 11.3. We configure the HP laser printer in CUPS via network printer (TCP/IP) instead of serial connection in V6. Now, the control code that Progress 4GL code sends being ignored. The control codes we use are, font size, line width, bold etc. Did anyone experience this issue and have a solution? Thank you in advance, John

This is a CUPS issue rather than a Progress issue.  You need to get a CUPS setup that will pass through the control codes.  Unfortunately, it has been too long since I did that to remember how.  Maybe someone else will, but in the meantime you could try googling for a CUPS answer.

Hello,

Additional info.
We had similar problem with Epson dot matirx printers on this upgrade, which ignored control code.
Mr. Paul Koufalis sent us the solution which is to use raw option in lp commend.

"lp -o raw -d queue filename", which solve our problem.

With HP laser printer, above raw option doesn't work.

I greatly appreciate for your help.
John
