Licensing Question

Is there anyone who is familiar with the different Licensing model progress uses when selling RDBMS and AppServer Licenses who could explain the meaning of the different models .

They're are 3 models on the progress Price list:

- Named User

- Registered User

- Access Agent

I was wondering what is the difference between the 3 ?

Thank you

I believe the options are:

Named User

Registered Device

Access Agent

My understanding (which could be wrong) is:

Named User: I have 50 users, and 70 devices. Application is installed on all 70 devices, but with my named users, I only need 50 licenses.

Registered Device: I have 300 users and 100 devices (3 shifts of 8 hours each). Only 100 licenses required.

Access Agent: I have an application that can be used by an unknown number of users (like a web app or a webclient app) - this is used for WebSpeed and AppServer licenses.

Of course you can also have a mix of licenses (named device & access agents for example).

In reality, the best person to speak to is your sales rep..

The term is Registered Client, but your sense is correct. Access Agent licenses are based on the number of agents necessary to support the volume, similar to the V9 model for Webspeed agents. See http://www.peg.com/lists/peg/history/200609/msg00608.html for a discussion of access agent licensing.
